Chinese Knotting of Basic Level-Snake Knot (and its application in bracelets)

July 20, 2013

Snake Knot–Sounds scary? I think its name originates from the snake-like pattern of multiple Snake Knots.

It’s a useful knot in bracelet. It’s easy to make one !

Step 1: Starting from Point A, the red cord curves around the green cord to make a loop.

Step 2: The green cord curves anti-clockwise to the back of the red loop and then goes out from the loop.

Step 3: Tighten the knot. Here’s one single Snake Knot.

Step 4: Repeat the previous steps to make the snake-like pattern.

After learning Snake Knot, Double Connection Knot and Button Knot, you can try this simple bracelet:

Material: 5# Chinese Knotting Cord (Satin cord) 1.5m*2

Step 1: Tie a Double Connection Knot with the blue cord in the middle. Don’t tighten the knot.

Step 2: Insert the red cord into the Double Connection Knot and tighten it.

Step 3: Make two Snake Knots with the red cord.

Step 4: Place one blue cord above the red one and the other under the red one as the picture shows.

Step 5:  Make two Snake Knots with the blue cord. Then repeat Step 3 and 4.

Step 6: When you reach the length you want, tie a Double Connection Knot and hide the other two red cords inside the knot. Make a Button Knot at the end. Cut the excessive cords and scorch the cord ends.
